The Business Analyst will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between business objectives and the capabilities of our data science team. This role works directly on predictive modeling projects, ensuring that data-driven insights are effectively translated into actionable business strategies.

 

This role helps drive critical enterprise initiatives, tying together specialized business line needs with the greater data science capabilities. The Business Analyst will be the primary owner of business requirement documentation for the data science team. Working with a team of data scientists and technical partners, the Business Analyst will be a thought leader for the team’s internal processes and a key spokesperson and team representative to internal stakeholders. An ideal candidate will naturally view the world with curiosity first and a relentless pursuit of the ultimate why. This role demands a simultaneous in-flow and out-flow mentality: seeking business input and clarity, providing clear updates and guidance to move both business and data initiatives forward.

 

The Business Analyst will also play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and report certification requirements. This individual will work closely with business units to inventory existing reports, identify current-state processes, and help design solutions to meet regulatory expectations as the bank centralizes data and reporting onto a modern data platform.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as a liaison between the data science team and business units, facilitating clear and effective communication. Ideal candidate can lead through influence; rally attention, people, and knowledge without needing to escalate.
  • Requirement Gathering: Work with stakeholders to gather and document business requirements for data-driven projects.
  • Solution Design: Develop and propose solutions that align with business objectives and leverage predictive modeling techniques.
  • Project Management: Oversee the implementation of data projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Collaborate with the data science team to analyze complex datasets and develop predictive models.
  • Data Science Roadmap: Develop and maintain a data science roadmap, outlining strategic initiatives and project timelines.
  • Project Ideation and Backlog Management: Collaborate with line of business (LOB) leaders to gather new project ideas and manage a backlog of work, prioritizing initiatives based on business impact and feasibility.
  • Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure all data projects comply with relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies, maintaining the highest standards of data privacy and security.
  • Documentation: Document business processes, write standards and procedures, and maintain comprehensive documentation of predictive models. 

Key Competencies for Position

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholder
  • Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to analyze data and identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., SAS, SQL, Python, R) and experience with predictive modeling.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and develop innovative solutions to business challenges.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a business analyst role, preferably within the financial services industry.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) or PMI-PBA (Professional in Business Analysis) are a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools and techniques, with experience in predictive modeling. 

Key Measures of Success/Key Deliverables:

  • Project Completion: Successful and timely completion of predictive modeling projects.
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Positive feedback from stakeholders on the clarity and effectiveness of communication and solutions provided.
  • Data-Driven Insights: Demonstrable impact of data-driven insights on business decision-making and strategy.
  • Quality of Analysis: Accuracy, reliability, and explainability of data analysis and predictive models developed.

Continuous Improvement: Ongoing contribution to the improvement of data processes and methodologies within the Chief Data Offic.
